Dr John Brown Chairman

John Brown joined BTG in January 2008 as a Non-Executive Director and was appointed Chairman in March 2008. He is Chairman of the Nomination Committee.
John Brown, PhD, MBA, FRSE, is a Non-Executive Director of a number of public and private biotech companies including Ardana plc, Protherics plc and Vectura Group plc, and was a Director of Cambridge Antibody Technology plc until its recent acquisition by AstraZeneca. He currently chairs the Governing Council of the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh and is Chairman of Scottish Biomedical, CXR Ltd and SingVax Pte Ltd. He sits on the advisory board of the Life Sciences ITI in Scotland, is a member of the UK Technology Strategy Board, and an advisor to several private equity and venture capital funds. Until late 2003, Dr Brown was Chief Executive of Acambis plc, a leading producer of vaccines to treat and prevent infectious disease. John holds a PhD in neuropharmacology from Edinburgh University and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

Dr Louise Makin Chief Executive Officer

Louise Makin joined BTG as Chief Executive Officer in October 2004. From 2001, she was President, Biopharmaceuticals Europe of Baxter Healthcare, where she was responsible for Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Louise joined Baxter Healthcare in 2000 as Vice President, Strategy & Business Development Europe. Before joining Baxter, she was Director of Global Ceramics at English China Clay and prior to that she held a variety of roles at ICI between 1985 and 1998. She joined Premier Foods plc as a Non-Executive Director in October 2006. Louise has an MBA, and holds an MA in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Metallurgy from the University of Cambridge.

Christine Soden Chief Financial Officer

Christine Soden became Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary of BTG in July 2005. Before joining BTG she was Chief Financial Officer of Oxagen Limited, a privately owned drug discovery company, where she was responsible for the finance, IT, legal and operations functions. From 1996 until 1999, Christine was Finance Director of Chiroscience Group plc then Chief Financial Officer of Celltech Chiroscience plc following the merger of the two companies. Prior to this, Christine spent over four years as Group Financial Controller and Head of Tax and Treasury at Medeva plc. Christine has a BSc in mathematics from Durham and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

Professor Colin Blakemore Non-Executive Director

Colin Blakemore joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in October 2007 and is a member of the Remuneration Committee.
Colin Blakemore, FMedSci, Hon FIBiol, Hon FRCP, FRS, has been a Professor in the Medical School at Oxford University since 1979. He was Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Research Council from 2003 to 2007, and from 1996-2003 he was Director of the MRC Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience at Oxford. He is a past President of the British Neuroscience Association, the Physiological Society, the Biosciences Federation and the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Professor Blakemore studied Medical Sciences at Cambridge and completed a PhD at the University of California in Berkeley. He joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in October 2007. |

Consuelo Brooke Non-Executive Director

Consuelo Brooke joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in 2002 and has been Senior Independent Director since July 2003. She is Chairman of the Remuneration Committee and a member of the Nomination Committee.
Consuelo Brooke retired as a Managing Director of Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (MLIM) after over 32 years in the investment management industry with MLIM and its predecessor companies, Mercury Asset Management and Warburg Investment Management. She is a Non-Executive Director of Xansa plc, a member of the Board of University of Sussex Intellectual Property Ltd, and a member and Treasurer of the Council of Sussex University. She is still active in the investment business through her directorships of C Brooke Investment Partners Ltd and Philippe Investment Management Ltd.

Peter Chambré Non-Executive Director

Peter Chambré joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in September 2006. He is a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committees.
Peter Chambré was Chief Executive Officer of Cambridge Antibody Technology Group plc from 2002 until its recent acquisition by AstraZeneca plc. Previously he was Chief Operating Officer of Celera Genomics Group and Chief Executive of Bespak plc. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Spectris plc, the precision instrumentation and controls company, and Chairman of 7TM Pharma A/S, a Danish biotech company.

Dr William Jenkins Non-Executive Director

William Jenkins joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in 2002 and is a member of the Audit and Nomination Committees.
William Jenkins was previously Head of Clinical Development & Regulatory Affairs for Novartis Pharma AG having held the same position pre-merger from 1992 with CIBA-Geigy AG. Prior to that he was Head of Global Clinical Research at Glaxo from 1988. Since 1999 he has been a consultant to pharmaceutical companies and to investment companies in the life sciences sector. He is a member of the Boards of Eurand Pharmaceutical Holdings B.V., Evotec OAI AG, Acambis plc and Monogram Biosciences, Inc. He gained MA and MD degrees from the University of Cambridge and his earlier career was in medical research at the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and later as a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Free Hospital, London University.

Giles Kerr Non-Executive Director

Giles Kerr joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in October 2007 and is Chairman of the Audit Committee.
Giles Kerr is currently the Director of Finance with the University of Oxford, England, and a Fellow of Keble College. He is also a Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Victrex plc and a Director of Isis Innovation Ltd. Previously Mr. Kerr was the Group Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer of Amersham plc, the leading medical diagnostics and life science company acquired by GE Healthcare in 2004. Prior to his role at Amersham, he was a partner with the accounting firm Arthur Andersen in the United Kingdom. He is a graduate of the University of York and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.

Alison Wood OBE Non-Executive Director

Alison Wood joined BTG as a Non-Executive Director in 2004 and is a member of the Audit and Remuneration Committees.
Alison Wood is currently the Group Strategic Development Director for BAE Systems Plc and a member of the Group’s Executive Committee. Alison was appointed as a Managing Director within BAE Systems in 1999 and was subsequently appointed as Group Director of Strategy/M&A. From 1991 to 1999, Alison held various positions with British Aerospace plc, culminating in her role as Director of Corporate Strategy and Planning. Prior to this, Alison was a strategy consultant with Outram Cullinan & Company and a research associate with Booz Allen & Hamilton Inc. Alison holds an MA in Engineering, Economics and Management from Oxford and an MBA from Harvard.
